About Deborah & Awakenings
From an early age, I didn’t really fit in anywhere even though I was always the one other people came to who seemed to know what to do. I knew I had a uniqueness about me, I could feel it and embraced it although I didn’t see any of it as being special or having spiritual gifts at the time, nor did I have anyone to talk to about it.
From an early age, I didn’t really fit in anywhere even though I was always the one other people came to who seemed to know what to do. I knew I had a uniqueness about me, I could feel it and embraced it although I didn’t see any of it as being special or having spiritual gifts at the time, nor did I have anyone to talk to about it.
In 2003, I was in an auto accident where I experienced severe traumatic brain injury. When the cars hit, I went up, watching and hearing everything as a bystander and I stayed there for an extended time. I was with God and the Angels, assured everything was going to be okay and I would be taken care of. The colors, the sounds, the music, the love were beyond anything I had ever known. Once you’ve had such an experience, it cannot be undone, and forever changes life’s trajectory. Although there was a lot of work on my part to recover, I was given a gift, the miracle of healing and the ability to allow healing to flow to others.
I knew I needed to help others in their healing process, so I wrote Becoming the Healer The Miracle of Brain Injury, about the experience, pointing out things that could be done to bring about healing in a different way, but there was more to be done.

With the book done, it was time to step forward to do what I felt I was created and called to do, it became apparent to open a 501(c) (3) non-profit healing center. Together, my husband Lance and I believed we wouldn’t be asked to do anything we couldn’t, and so Awakenings: Center for Inner Healing & Empowerment was born and recognized in April 2012. Tucked away in the mountains with easy access to Asheville, NC, we offer phone consultations, daily appointments, and healing retreats.
